Risk Disclosure Statement
Last updated: May 2026
This Risk Disclosure Statement describes the principal risks of using the BELEM platform operated by BELEM Blockchain Technology Co., Ltd. ("BELEM") to exchange fiat currency and digital assets. It is not exhaustive. By using the platform you acknowledge that you understand and accept these risks. Nothing on the platform constitutes investment, legal, or tax advice.
1. Market and volatility risk
Digital assets and foreign-exchange rates are highly volatile. Prices can move sharply within seconds, and the value of assets you acquire may fall as well as rise. You may lose some or all of the value of your funds. Past performance is not indicative of future results.
2. No deposit insurance or guarantee
BELEM is a registered Money Services Business, not a bank. Digital assets and funds handled in connection with an exchange are not protected by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC), any deposit-guarantee scheme, or any investor-compensation scheme. Registration with FINTRAC does not guarantee or insure your funds.
3. Irreversibility of transactions
Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible. Transfers sent to an incorrect or fraudulent address, or to details you provided in error, cannot be recovered by BELEM. You are solely responsible for verifying all wallet addresses and beneficiary details before confirming a transaction. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
4. Technology and security risk
Distributed-ledger technology carries risks including network congestion, forks, protocol failures, smart-contract vulnerabilities, and cyber-attacks. Loss of your private keys, passwords, or two-factor credentials may result in permanent and unrecoverable loss of assets held in your own wallets.
5. Liquidity risk
Liquidity for certain assets or currency pairs may be limited or may disappear during periods of market stress, which can widen spreads, delay execution, or make it impossible to complete a transaction at an expected rate.
6. Regulatory and legal risk
The legal and regulatory treatment of digital assets is evolving and varies by jurisdiction. Changes in law, regulation, or policy — including new registration, licensing, sanctions, or tax requirements — may adversely affect the availability of services, the value of assets, or your ability to transact. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the platform is lawful in your jurisdiction.
7. Counterparty and operational risk
Settlement relies on banks, correspondent banks, payment processors, and third-party liquidity and analytics providers. The failure, insolvency, delay, or error of any such party may affect the timing or completion of a transaction. BELEM is not responsible for delays or charges imposed by third-party institutions.
8. Fraud and scam risk
Be alert to impersonation, phishing, "recovery" scams, and fraudulent investment schemes. BELEM will never ask you to send funds to a personal wallet, to share your password, or to pay a "release fee" to a third party. Official communication only comes from addresses ending in @belem-services.com.
9. Tax risk
Buying, selling, and converting digital assets may create taxable events. You are solely responsible for determining and meeting your tax obligations. BELEM does not provide tax advice; consult a qualified professional.
10. Suitability
You should only transact with funds you can afford to lose, after assessing whether the activity is appropriate for your financial situation, objectives, and risk tolerance. If you do not understand the risks, do not transact.
